Former Lex Multipart Chorley
The site at Pilling Lane Chorley was formerly a British Leyland Factory before it became headquarters of Mulitpart. Demolition commenced May 2007 and was estimated to take 12 months. The vast majority of structures comprised of steal skeletal frames with external sheet cladding. Brick and block walls were also present especially in the relatively new (circa 1980) office building. These were systematically demolished primarily using a pair of Volvo 460’s fitted with heavy duty shearing equipment. Following on from primary demolition, machines utilizing materials handling attachments selected and segregated the various building components into re – useable and waste products.
Upon completion of each section BAE inspected and carried out validation sampling of the underlying soil, resulting in some areas requiring bioremediation or bulk excavation off site to a licensed landfill due to residual contamination. Ultimately the demolition and remediation phase was completed 2 months ahead of schedule.
